Winter is Slip Sliding Away..and so is the volcano

And thus it goes. Thaw time is upon us, of sorts. It is actually snowing outside and according to the weather service we will see a "light ashfall" as well from the erupting Mt. Redoubt.

Ah the joys of Arctic life.

  1. I've been reading about Mt Redoubt. Interesting name. How did it come by it?

  2. That's a good question. Apparently it is so named because of its shape, like a type of hilltop fortress called a redoubt. At least that's the only explanation I could find. There are also three mountains with the same name I discovered.

Today we had a major eruption about 3:30 PM which dumped a thin layer of ash over the whole city of Anchorage. The sky smells like sulphur right now.
